Toyota Safety Sense

Toyota Safety Sense is an available suite of new safety systems designed to actively keep drivers and passengers safe on the road. These five systems were created to help prevent the three most common incidents: collisions, lane departures and poor night visibility.

Toyota Safety Sense is available on seven new Toyota vehicles, but you can plan to see that number increase as new Toyota vehicles make their way to the lineup. These safety systems not only keep drivers and passengers safe, but everyone else on the road as well.

Pre-Collision System:

This system uses a forward-facing camera and radar to maintain continual surveillance of the road ahead. If the system detects a possible collision, it will set off audible and visual warnings. The brake assistance system is automatically activated and ready to go as well. If the driver does not apply the brakes, this system will do so automatically.

Lane Departure Alert:

With this system, it keeps an eye on the road with a specialized camera making sure the driver does not deviate out of the marked lines. If it detects that the vehicle is starting to go out of its lane, a beeping sound will go off and a light will turn on until the driver corrects the vehicle’s placement on the road.

Auto High Beams:

For better visibility, this system makes it a lot easier for driving at night. There is a camera in place that can detect oncoming vehicles and automatically switch between high and low beams for the driver.

Pedestrian Detection:

In order to work, this system uses millimeter-wave radar and a specialized camera that can recognize shapes to alert the driver if a pedestrian is in danger of a possible collision. There will be an audible warning as well as a visual notification to inform the driver of the potential danger. The system with automatically brake and attempt to avoid the collision if the driver does not react in time.

Dynamic Radar Cruise Control:

Similar to the Pre-Collision System, this system uses the same radar and camera to determine the exact speed and distance of vehicles up ahead. It works like regular cruise control, but it will automatically adjust your speed to maintain a preset following distance with other vehicles so you don’t have to continually adjust it.
