There are not many automakers that can match Toyota in terms of breadth and depth of available crossover SUVs. Within the new Toyota inventory available at the Colonial Toyota showroom, it’s the Toyota RAV4 that has become the top dog – and for good reason. In fact, a comparison between the 2021 Toyota RAV4 vs. 2021 Ford Escape will really help customers working through this vehicle segment make the best decision for their needs, family and budget.
The 2021 RAV4 offers more standard power than its Ford rival, more interior cargo volume and more standard connectivity equipment. Independent online reviews have praised the 2021 RAV4 for its quiet and comfortable interior, generous cargo volume dimensions and user-friendly control interface.

For another model year, the 2021 Toyota RAV4 will be solely powered by the same power plant platform that has been used by previous models. A naturally aspirated 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine will be under the hood and it will be mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. All versions of the 2021 RAV4 will be able to produce 203 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. The standard powertrain for the 2021 Ford Escape is a turbocharged three-cylinder engine that will make 181 horsepower and 190 pound-feet of torque. A larger and more powerful engine can be equipped with the 2021 Escape, but that additional performance will come at the cost of fuel economy.
Even though some versions of the Escape may produce more power, both crossover SUVs have the same maximum towing capacity of 3,500 pounds when the two vehicles are properly equipped. When people are sitting in the backseat of either the 2021 RAV4 or 2021 Escape, there can be up to 37.5 cubic-feet of cargo volume to use. However, when the rear seat of the Toyota crossover SUV is folded down, drivers will be able to use up to 69.8 cubic-feet to haul cargo. A 2021 Ford Escape will top out at 65.4 cubic-feet.
Every 2021 Toyota RAV4 available at the Colonial Toyota showroom is equipped with a smartphone-compatible infotainment system that will work with both the Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ suites of applications as well as Amazon Alexa. The Toyota Wi-Fi mobile hotspot is also standard equipment. People choosing the 2021 Ford Escape will eventually find a similar lineup of connectivity technology, but they may have to move up well beyond the base trim.
