The Toyota Tundra stands out from its rivals in the full-size pickup truck class for several reasons. First, it is one of the only trucks that is solely powered by a V-8 engine platform, and base models can be equipped to tow more than 10,000 pounds.
Buyers looking to make comparisons between the 2021 Toyota Tundra vs. 2020 Toyota Tundra will see a lot of commonalities. Both versions of the full-size pickup truck will share much of the same powertrain equipment and performance output. Where the two Tundra model years will most differ is in available accessory packages. The 2021 Tundra introduces the Trail and Nightshade Editions which will each outfit certain versions of the Toyota pickup to better fit the owner’s needs.

As we stated earlier, the biggest change made to the 2021 Tundra over the 2020 model is the availability of the Trail model and Nightshade Special Edition accessory packages. Colonial Toyota customers who are looking for a unique outdoor experience should inquire about the Trail variant of the 2021 Tundra that based on the SR5 trim grade with the CrewMax cabin. In addition to a larger 38-gallon fuel tank, the Tundra Trail will ride on 18-inch wheels wrapped with specialized all-terrain tires. The cargo bed has equipped with lockable storage compartments. Toyota has insulated the storage box on the driver’s side so it can be packed with ice and be used a cooler. Additionally, the cargo bed itself comes from the factory with a spray-in bed liner.
The Toyota Tundra can be more than just a utility vehicle thanks to the Nightshade Edition accessory package. Our manufacturing partner has taken the top-of-the-line Limited trim grade and added several blacked-out accent elements, matching black leather-trimmed upholstery and black exterior trim pieces. Colonial Toyota customers can find the 2021 Tundra Nightshade Edition in several exterior colors, Midnight Black Metallic, Cement, Super White (Double Cab only) and the premium Windchill Pearl color that is only available on CrewMax cab options.
Toyota hasn’t made any major changes to the powertrain used by the Tundra in several years. Both the 2021 and 2020 models have a naturally aspirated 5.7-liter, V-8 engine under the hood that will be mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. This means that both Toyota Tundra model years will produce 381 horsepower and 401 pound-feet of torque. The 2021 Tundra has a maximum towing capacity of 10,200 – just like the 2020 version.
